| Battery recycling is recycling actions that try to decrease the quantity of batteries being disposed as municipal solid waste. It is extensively promoted by environmentalists worried about pollution, mainly of land and water, by the accumulation of heavy metals and other toxic chemicals from batteries.
Most types of batteries can be recycled. Though, some batteries are recycled more willingly than others, such as lead-acid automotive batteries (97% are recycled) and button cells (because of the worth and toxicity of their chemicals). Other types, such as alkaline battery and rechargeable, can also be recycled.
